Information about Chicken Drumsticks.
Chicken Drumsticks are always popular at Barbecues, they are ideal for simple chicken lunches, kids love them because they are inexpensive, meaty, tender to eat & always deliver great flavour. The Chicken Drumsticks have slightly coarser meat than the Chicken Thighs with the meat being a little darker. There are 4 pieces per pack, approximately 120-140 grams each, sealed for extra freshness & generously meaty giving great value for money.
What are Chicken Drumsticks?
The Drumsticks are the portion between the Thigh & the Foot. These have a single bone in the middle covered in thick darker meat with the skin on. The meat is darker than the rest of the Chicken as they are hard working muscles, the fibrous meat texture has amazing flavour & very tender when cooked.
How are Chicken Drumsticks cut?
The Drumsticks are cut by expert butchers from whole Chicken Legs, they are separated at the joint from the bottom of the Thigh.
Only A Grade Chicken is used to make any of our Chicken cuts, these birds must be free from any bruising or discolouration & be chilled down to a temperature of 1-2°c before any cutting. The ready made Chicken Drumsticks have the skin left on because it protects the meat from drying out & for extra flavour when cooking.
The darker meat in the Drumsticks normally has more flavour because it is more fibrous as it is a harder working muscle. The more fibrous the meat, the better the flavour because when cooked a little lower in temperature for longer, breaks down the meat becoming very tender. Most darker meat is caused by a High PH level, due to stress causing increased adrenaline in the bloodstream, but this is not the case in Chicken Drumsticks.
Our expert butchers have fully prepared these as ready to cook Chicken Drumsticks, saving you time & money. To keep food waste to a minimum the only piece to be thrown away after eating, is the bone.
How do we pack Chicken Drumsticks?
The Chicken Drumsticks are cut & packed within minutes, in temperature controlled production rooms, reducing handling & loss of natural moisture in the meat.
The Drumsticks are packed with 4 portions on our Recyclable “Skin Packed Trays”. The clear Skin Pack Trays are made from a strong recycled plastic (a more sustainable packaging), with a thin transparent film that lays across the meat.
Once the Drumsticks are cut they are only handled once more when 4 portions are laid flat onto the Skin Pack Tray. The trays are then passed through a sterile machine that applies & seals a thin plastic film layer across the whole tray. The packing machine “Vacuum Seals” the film onto the tray locking in all the natural moisture & flavour of the Chicken Drumsticks.
The trays are then labelled & packed into Recyclable Boxes, the boxes are then palletised & placed into the Blast Freezer, the meat is frozen down to -18°c in a few hours. The benefits of “Blast Freezing” meat are excellent, it allows the Chicken Drumsticks to keep all its delicious natural flavour & moisture for 2 years, tasting like it has just been cut.
All our production plants are BRCGS / IFS approved & operate under the strictest of conditions. Constantly supervised by on site health vets to ensure all cutting & hygiene processes are adhered to. The temperature controlled cutting rooms with filtered air means we can reduce natural bacteria growth & produce safer products with a longer shelf life. The process from farm to finished product is a very humane & efficient.
The clear recyclable trays protect your Chicken Drumsticks from any damage during delivery, any contamination from other foodstuffs in your fridge & they are perfect for frozen storage. The trays now used are stronger & thinner than before as we are reducing our Carbon Footprint for a Greener Future. Less packaging means less energy needed to make & recycle plastic.
To further help us towards our goal for a Greener Future, we ask that all our wholesale & online customers recycle responsibly.
